Nestled in the green surroundings of Olaine’s Mežaparks at Veselības iela 7, the "Čiekuriņš" preschool stands as a landmark renovation and modernisation project. This transformation has created a child-friendly, sustainable, and architecturally refined environment, blending cutting-edge engineering systems, eco-conscious solutions, and thoughtful design.
The project secured 3rd place in the "Best Construction in Latvia 2024" awards under the "Renovation and Restoration" category—a testament to the expertise and craftsmanship of the teams involved.
Project Team: Visionaries Behind the Design
Two leading studios collaborated on this project: SIA "BALTS UN MELNS" and SIA "Būvdizains" delivered the architectural and technical solutions. Architect Guntis Kārkliņš played a pivotal role in enhancing the façade’s visual appeal, seamlessly integrating aesthetic architecture with functional, safe building structures and engineering systems.
Sustainable Features for a Child-Centric Space
The renovation prioritised eco-friendly and durable materials, including: Solar panels and LED lighting for energy efficiency. A MESH system for structural and environmental benefits. Wooden play structures and landscaping elements, harmonising with "Mežaparks" natural setting. A spacious outdoor play area and thoughtfully designed surroundings, ensuring a safe, inspiring environment for children.
